When in Cartagena….
Learn Spanish: There are a few different Spanish language schools in Cartagena. I have personal experience with Centro Catalina and can highly recommend them–they have group and individual classes as well as activities. They are accredited by the International Association of Language Centres and located in the San Diego section, conveniently the closest school to the apartments!
Learn Salsa & more: Group & private classes in Salsa, Merengue, Vallenato, Cumbia, and more are available at a number of places, including Crazy Salsa, a long time favorite school in the Old City.
SCUBA: Barracuda Dive Cartagena offers a variety of diving excursions & courses and the staff are completely bilingual, not to mention nice & fun! (You can also get PADI certified along with volunteering locally in Cartagena; check out this link for more information!)
Volunteer: Domino Volunteers helps place visitors in volunteer positions in Cartagena. The founder is a former Peace Corps volunteer in Cartagena and works with several organizations in the city, ‘vetting’ them and making sure that volunteers will be a good fit! It’s best to have some Spanish & be at least four weeks in Cartagena, but if they know of shorter term opportunities they will certainly let you know! Domino Volunteers also partners with Barracuda Dive Cartagena to combine PADI certification with volunteering, visit this page for more information!
